Pick-Up & Departure
Your private guide and deluxe air-conditioned coach will pick you up from your hotel for an unforgettable journey through the heart of ancient Macedonia.
Pella – The Hellenistic Capital
Travel along the historic Egnatia Trade Road, passing New Chalkidona, a settlement founded by Chalkideans opposite the Megarian colony of Byzantio. Approach Pella, the magnificent Hellenistic capital of Macedon, where the first royal tombs evoke the glory of a city that rivaled Athens in its time. Explore the archaeological site and museum, discovering the grandeur of ancient Macedonian civilization.
Vergina (Aigai) – The Royal Tombs
Depart Pella and traverse the fertile plains of Macedonia, passing through Alexandreia, the city dedicated to Alexander the Great. Continue along scenic agricultural roads, flanked by peach orchards, to reach ancient Aigai (Vergina).
Here, visit the Royal Tombs Museum, including the monumental tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Learn about the opulent funeral rituals, the gold-and-ivory deathbed, and the tomb’s monumental barrel-vaulted structure. The exhibition interweaves palace and temple architecture and depicts hunting scenes of father and son, offering a window into the lives of Macedonian royalty. Enhance your visit with Dr. Aggeliki Kotaridi’s book, written by the museum’s archaeologist and director, for a lasting memory of your experience.
Aristotle’s School
Conclude the day with a visit to Aristotle’s School, where the great philosopher tutored Alexander the Great and his companions for two and a half years. Explore the historic grounds and learn about the early education of the leader who would go on to conquer much of the known world.
